THE TRAVEL & TOURISM COMPETITIVENESS REPORT 2015 (Versión en ingles)

En los últimos dos años desde la publicación de la edición anterior del Informe de Competitividad de Viajes y Turismo, las condiciones marco para el sector de Viajes y Turismo (T & T) han cambiado significativamente. El mundo enfrenta tensiones geopolíticas desde Oriente Medio y Ucrania hasta el sudeste asiático, amenazas terroristas cada vez mayores y temor a la propagación de pandemias globales.

En caso de que persisten, estos retos globales podrían tener repercusiones significativas en la industria de T & T, ya que tocan la condición previa para que el sector crezca y se desarrolle: la capacidad de las personas para viajar con seguridad. Hasta la fecha, el efecto de tales eventos en los viajes y el turismo ha sido mixto. Mientras que algunos países han visto disminuciones significativas en el número de visitantes internacionales, otros destinos no han sido afectados. Siguiendo adelante, la incertidumbre con respecto al desarrollo futuro del sector persistirá y las fuerzas complejas están en juego. Por un lado, las economías avanzadas se enfrentan a un bajo crecimiento económico mientras el crecimiento de los mercados emergentes comienza a desacelerarse. Por otra parte, el mundo sigue estando más interconectado y globalizado. Teniendo esto en cuenta, el tema del Informe de este año, "Creciendo a través de los choques", refleja el contexto mundial actual y las muchas complejidades que deben abordarse para asegurar un fuerte crecimiento sectorial en el futuro

In the last two years since the publication of the previous edition of the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report, the framework conditions for the Travel and Tourism (T&T) sector have changed significantly. The world has been facing geopolitical tensions from the Middle East and Ukraine to South-East Asia, growing terrorism threats and fear of the spread of global pandemics.

Should they persist, these global challenges could have significant further repercussions on the T&T industry, as they touch on the pre-condition for the sector to grow and develop—the ability of people to travel safely. To date, the effect of such events on travel & tourism has been mixed. While some countries have witnessed significant decreases in the number of international visitors, other destinations have remained unaffected. Going forward, uncertainty with respect to future development of the sector will persist and complex forces are at play. On the one hand, advanced economies face persistent low economic growth while the growth of emerging markets is starting to decelerate. On the other hand, the world continues to become more interconnected and globalized. With this in mind, the theme of this year’s Report, “Growing through Shocks”, reflects the current global context and the many complexities that must be tackled to ensure strong sectoral growth going into the future
